First Mod For Your Scion FR-S: LED Daytime Running Lights

The question that comes into mind for nearly all car enthusiasts when they purchase a new is, “What should I do first to my brand new car?!”. While there are so many choices out there for a first modification, a first modification for most car enthusiasts would be to create a unique look to set their car apart from the sea of other cars. Sure, you can change out an LED bulb here and there which will change the light (this is not a bad thing though!), but why stop there? As a first mod to the car, adding LED daytime running lights should be a top choice for all new Scion FR-S owners.

This LED daytime running light will substitute the existing fog light bezel and fog light itself (if your vehicle was equipped with it) with an exact fit replacement LED lamp. This light clips onto the factory location using the same clips so it requires no modification to the bumper and is completely reversible if you ever need to take it off. This light is intended to fit the 2013 and up Scion FR-S to resemble the LED daytime running lamps on the Toyota 86/GT86 in Japan. Since the debut of the Scion FR-S in the United States, it has been at the center of attention in the automotive industry. However, unlike its equivalent in Japan; known as the Toyota 86, it does not have an option to come with LED daytime running lights integrated into the headlights in a similar style as the newer Audi and Lexus vehicles do. This style of LED daytime running light has been becoming increasingly popular among car enthusiasts. Since replacing the entire headlight assembly is quite expensive and requires complicated wiring, we decided to provide an alternative solution to this dilemma.

This LED daytime running light replaces the fog light assembly area with an LED bar that looks like the vehicle came equipped from factory like this. It is a subtle, yet dramatic change to the exterior of the Scion FR-S.

Not only does this LED daytime running light look awesome, it plays an important role in enhancing the safety of your vehicle during the day and night allowing other drivers to notice you easily thanks to the high powered Osram LEDs powering it. Scion FR-S/Subaru BR-Z LED Third Brake Light Reflector Modification

With the debut of the Toyota FT86 (or Scion FR-S and Subaru BR-Z as it is known in the United States), it has attracted a large interest of car enthusiasts. For those familiar with this car, a noticeable feature is the red reflector on the bottom of the bumper next to the reverse lights which has no light inside. While the FT86 already has a third brake light over the trunk inside the cabin, it seems to make more sense (visually) to have the third brake light at where the red reflector is instead.

We decided to create a simple to install, “do-it-yourself” type product that takes 1-2 hours to complete (depending on your experience). This project takes the existing reflector/reverse light housing and puts a light inside it; it does require some modification to the housing and socket.

Within the next few weeks, we will have an LED install kit available for you guys which include the bulbs, wiring socket, drill bit, and all the major components for installation. This installation just requires basic tools and a 12v power drill for installation. Not only with these lights set you apart from the rest of the crowd, but will also enhance your vehicle’s visibility at night to increase safety. These lights can operate as a third brake light by itself or it can operate as both the running light and brake light.

9005 LED Daytime Running Lights for a Fancy Subaru Impreza WRX

The recent aesthetic feature of most of the newer vehicles being released to the public are the LED daytime running lights which are lit up as a white light. LED lights offer a variety of advantages over standard incandescent lights such as: more efficiency in converting power into light, less power consumption, and a much more appealing color of light and many more! However, not every vehicle has this luxury of a factory installed LED daytime running light so for the vehicles that came with incandescent lights for the DRLs; we have a solution available which is our LED replacement bulbs.

Installed on this Subaru Impreza WRX is our 68-SMD 9005 LED replacement bulbs which are a direct replacement to the factory bulbs and do not require any type of modification or additional components. These simple to install bulbs change the color from a dull yellow to a unique 6000K Xenon White color that will closely match aftermarket 6000-8000K color HID kits.

Since the high beams are also the same bulb as the daytime running light, some of you may wonder if the high beam function will still work and the answer is yes; although we do recommend only replacing these lights for their aesthetic qualities rather than the actual output at night during high beam mode.

60-SMD 7443 Switchback LED Bulbs on a 2013 Scion FR-S

A matching set of lights when you are driving at night is always a very clean thing to see on the road and it does you stand out from the rest of the lights in traffic. This customer decided to replace his turn signal/parking light bulb with our 60-SMD 7443 Switchback LED bulbs which light up as Xenon White (6000K) when the parking lights are on and blink Amber when the turn signals are used. Due to its innovative design, the light remains legal since the turn signal indicator still remains Amber.

To mitigate the issue of hyper-flashing; a phenomenon that is related to LED turn signal bulbs that cause the indicator to blink at a rapid rate than normal, this customer used our 8-pin 12v Electronic LED Flasher Relay made for Toyota vehicles. Instead of using traditional load resistors which require splicing and tapping of the existing wiring, the flasher relay replaces the existing turn signal indicator relay in a plug and play fashion. With these two components, the 60-SMD 7443 Switchback LED Bulbs and 8-pin 12v Electronic Flasher Relay are both plug and play items that go together very well.
